Finite Element Analysis of Frames with Reinforced Concrete Encased Steel Composite Columns

Structural frame systems that consists of concrete-encased-steel-embedded composite columns and reinforced concrete beams are typically used in mid-rise to tall buildings. In order understand their overall structural behavior, a total 12 models with high low ductility features were constructed analyzed using LS-DYNA software. Two these validated the results previously tested frames. The remaining 10 studied predict behavior frames varying strengths, reinforcement configurations, steel sections under vertical lateral loads. investigated terms cracks failure patterns, load-deflection relationships, energy dissipation, stiffness degradation. analytical indicated ductile showed slightly better load carrying performances compared models. Moreover, studies demonstrated existence column, regardless its cross-sectional shape, was most important parameter improving capacity frame.
